Host Mom in Cambodia: “The hardest part about living here is…”

I completed her sentence for her in my mind: “THE EXTREME HEAT!”

(Seriously, I’ve never felt anything like the heat and humidity here)

But no…

For her the hardest part about living here is seeing all the people that need help and knowing that she can’t swoop in and rescue the beggar in the wheelchair by the river or the young girl leaving the brothel in the wee hours of the morning. She can’t give them all the money they need, or a bed, or a roof over their heads but she can share Jesus with them, she can introduce them to the ultimate provider!

Her and her family moved here from Australia to run a school in hopes of not only giving the kids of this village an education but also showing them their faith and how it can change lives. They teach school daily, they run vacation Bible schools, they send teams on hospital visits, they opened a café and they witness to everyone around them. A family of 5, they are seriously busy bees! They are accepted and loved by the locals and are truly a part of this community and have welcomed us into it with open arms.

It’s looking like it’s going to be one heck of a month as we come alongside them in all their endeavors. Cambodia is a beautiful, traditional, cultural country with a genocide greatly shaping not only its history but the way the country still functions today. It is home to some inspiring people and is a place we feel privileged to spend time in.
