All of us on team A, worked over the course of a week or so to help physically build a church in Lomo de Corvina.

Putting in the second set of panels.

Putting in a section of the wall. And yes, that is just a sheet of masonite being used as a wall, being put into sand with just a few rocks and a bit of cement to anchor it in.

Juan, our host father, helping to dig a hole for a post.

We put up all those walls in one afternoon.

Spano working on the rafters. We had fun working together.

Here’s the new church. This was as much as we were able to complete due to running out of time and not having the rest of the materials.

We had been going up to this part of Lima all month building the church through relationships. You’ve seen and heard a bit about two families that I have personally gotten to know a little bit: Elsa, and Zoila & Yesenia.

Amalia, Talia and I with Elsa and her two kids Cristian and Valia (both in white), and a neighborhood girl.

We said our goodbyes to all of them just yesterday. I would love to be able to come back some day and visit them and see how they are doing…but it’s kinda sad to think that the likely reality is that I will unfortunately never see them again. Kinda hard to live with when you think about it for a second.

I just now realized that we never got a group shot or anything with Zoila, Yesenia and Kathy…….Oh well I guess.

We had the first ever church service in the new building last Sunday. It went pretty well I thought. And I was glad that Elsa and her daughter were able to come. Camillo, who volunteers for the church, was kind enough to drive us down to her house in his moto-taxi to get her. She can’t walk far because of her leg, so without Camillo she probably wouldn’t have been able to attend.

The church and the temporary roof for the first ever service there.

Please pray for this church as it is in its infant stages of life. They do have a pastor, that we know from Iglesia Shalom. I’ve heard that Shalom will be sending up church leaders to every service as this is their first of hopefully 50 daughter churches. So just pray that God will be there and be working in the lives of the people in Lomo.
