Hello world!
Sorry it’s been a while since my last update. I have been very busy with our Squad Debrief time, and transition to Rwanda.
I stayed behind in Kenya for a few days while the rest of our squad continued on to Rwanda. I was sick and had to go to the hospital to get checked out and rest before I was able to travel. I was so thankful for the rest I got and it prepared me for the 30 hour Bus Ride from Nairobi to Kigali Rwanda!
Our time together as a squad at debrief was awesome and relaxing. we also went on a safari and got to see many animals, and marvel at God’s creation. we also went to a restaurant in Nairobi called Carnivore, where you eat exotic meats like Ostrich, camel, crocodile, ox balls, yep ox balls, and you name it we ate it. It was very interesting to say the least.
My team and I are currently in the city of Kigali, Rwanda serving a local church here, preaching, teaching, door to door evangelism and hospital visits. The country of Rwanda is absolutely beautiful, and not what i expected at all. It is very tropical looking with large mountains and rolling hillsides full of lush vegetation and farms. The city is very clean and modern and very new looking. If i didn’t know the ruff history of Rwanda all ready I would have never guessed that they just went through one of the largest Genocides in the world just a few years ago!
Today I met a young man that is 21. He was just a baby when the genocide occured here in Rwanda. His mother, father, brothers, and sisters where all killed in front of him, but his life was spared. He was raised by his grandmother, and is still struggling with the scares that were put upon him during this tragedy. When he shared his story with me my heart broke for him. The pain and the suffering he has been through…it is unimaginable! I struggled with sitting in the room trying to relate to him and put my self in his shoes. How do you offer hope to someone that is so hurt. I know God is the only one that can take care of his burdens….but still it really broke my heart to see his pain…it was if though he wore his scares and pain on his face!
I am excited to see God bring healing to the hearts of the broken hearted and hurt here in Rwanda. Next week we plan on visiting the Genocide memorial here in Rwanda to get a better understanding on what happened during that time here.
God is constantly wrecking me here in Africa! He never stops amazing me with his creation, his love, his power, his presence!
I can’t wait to share more with you.
Love you all
Ryan
