I am currently sitting on my bed (YES, a real bed) bundled up in my sleeping bag and scarf because South Africa winter is a real thing and its cold. All of our boys from the boys home will be back from holiday by Friday which means things will start to really speed up around here. I am really excited to get to spend time with these guys. Mia (the social worker at Khayalethu and our host) has been driving us around the last two days going to the boys homes or the host homes who are watching after the boys while on holiday, visiting them and making sure things are going smoothly while they are on break. So, we have only briefly met a few of them and they all seem like just precious little ones (even the not so little ones).
MAN, South Africa is beautiful. We have only traveled short distances but the landscape is forever changing. From Mountains to the Indian ocean to beautiful countryside with cows that most definitely remind me of Oklahoma. We have also really enjoyed getting to know Mia. She is HILARIOUS and sassy and she has such a heart for street children. It encourages my heart to see people standing in the gap for those who are helpless like these kiddos. They didnt choose to be born into the circumstances they are dealing with but we have had the pleasure of meeting so many caregivers and social workers in the past two weeks that are fighting for them. Man, God is present here!
Even spending time in the townships which are small poor neighborhoods where most houses are built out of small shacks, littered with trash and riddled with substance abuse, what I see are the little pockets of people who have opened up soup kitchens and daycares. That is hope to me. That is light in the darkness. That is Jesus.
God is doing great things in Port Elizabeth, South Africa and it feels like such a blessing that I get to partner up with His already present saints as they do Kingdom work.
Immanuel, God is with us.
So be encouraged! There are so many reasons to look at the world’s troubles and become afraid or saddened but God is expanding the Kingdom and it is flourishing before our eyes!!!
Yeah, this is some good stuff.
(p.s. I am about $2,787 away from my October goal of getting to continue on to Asia, please tell your friends and family and prayerfully consider partnering up with me on this journey.)
