As most of you know, my boyfriend is in
the military and recently began his workup for deployment. Which means he’s
currently training in the middle of nowhere and has no form of communication at
the moment. Thus, I resigned myself whilst back in Cambodia to the fact that I
would have no Valentine’s Day. Last night, I determined to be positive about it
and give the girls on my team a sweet Valentine’s Day to remember and so stayed
up until three in the morning writing notes and hiding them in various places
for them to discover the following day. When my alarm went off at seven, I groaned inwardly and
dragged myself out of bed to begin making heart-shaped apple cinnamon oatmeal
pancakes (which were apparently a success, judging by all the facebook statuses :D). Yummy! I opened the door of our bedroom to walk out and was greeted
by a carpet of rose petals. I followed them to the small kitchenette area where
a vase of roses (eleven – one for each of us girls) stood on the table,
surrounded by more rose petals and handwritten notes on red paper hearts for
each of us. So sweet!

Four of the girls
from our two teams remained home from the volunteering work today to surprise
everyone else. When the rest of us returned home, we were greeted by
handwritten signs and red ribbons and the roof blocked off. Around eight,
everything was pronounced ready and we were allowed upstairs to the rooftop. We
emerged from the doorway into the astonishing romantic atmosphere, complete
with candlelight, red streamers, and heart balloons (some of which more
resembled pears and papayas but who cares?). Dinner was a lovely affair of
sautéed rosemary chicken breasts, green beans with roasted almonds, fresh fruit
and vegetable salads, and brownies and chocolates galore for dessert. So
delicious! After dinner, a sudden deluge of rain caused our rather hasty exit
from the rooftop abode and we retired to the men’s quarters with the rest of
the desserts to complete the evening. A personal note for each person was read
and handed over. All of us girls assumed the night was over until Billy stood
and invited us into his and Brian’s room where the two of them proceeded to
sing and dance to Bruno Mar’s song Just the Way You Are. It was hilarious and
so sweet! Brian then read a poem that he had received from God and written for
all of us girls. (it’s posted below)
My Heavenly Heartbeat
How you capture my
eyes
Such a gorgeous
sight
My beautiful bride
How truly blessed
am I
To call you mine
Over time
You have been
learning to coincide
You and I
Becoming one
Unified
You take my breath
away
Amd my heart pounds
inside my chest
When you turn those
beautiful eyes to me
You overwhelm me
with your beauty
Captivated by your
presence
And mesmerized by
your essence
Struck with joy at
the sound of your voice
Love comes easy
with you
And all you have to
do
Is be you
Come on, everyone
say, “Aww… with me! It was so sweet. The night concluded with group hugs all
around and perhaps a few wet eyes. Ooh, and an awesome Valentine’s note from
Megan (my “secret Valentine) promising me ice cream. Best kind of card EVER!
And a facebook message from my best friend with virtual chocolate and roses.
Once again, aww…

I felt so loved
today, it’s unbelievable. I wasn’t really expecting anything and got
everything. God, you are so good to me! Thanks for blessing me with all these
incredible people in my life.
P.S. Guys of Y
Squad, you do us girls proud! Thank you for being such strong men of God and
loving us so well. Also, other guys… the standard you are measured by has
just gone way up!
