I was once a missionary, but now I’m a marketing guy.
overseas in some cool country that most like to read about. So, I’m a
marketing guy working for a missions organization trying to find better ways to
market and attract people to our product – the World Race.
things I do affect hundreds of participants and thousands out in the nations.
From our office, uh actually our house, we feed the poor, clothe the naked, and house
the homeless. From our, OK, house office, we see the lives of hundreds of world
racers impacted on a daily basis. And from our house office on Military Road in
Port Huron, Michigan just across the river from Canada, we are aggressively
working to bring more young people into this experience. Each day we talk to
potential world racers. These “potentials” or “inquiries” come by way of our
website. How
they get there is part of their story. And each story is as unique as the
person. Right now we don’t advertise in the traditional sense. We use creative
“internetting techniques.” Ask Matt Snyder or Jeff Goins, they can tell you how
to increase your web traffic without spending a cent! Of course, our best ads
are World Race Alumni who are back in the states sharing their stories and
experiences. More and more we hear from “potentials” who had a friend, or friend
of a friend who “did the race.”
about the program. And of course we know about the program because we have
lived it. We have traveled the nations, worked in the orphanages, built
churches, seen the miracles, and gotten to know God as Father. We also know
what it’s like to be on the other end of that phone – on the other end of that
interview. I did an interview last week with a young man from Texas. I was
moved by the passion in his voice, the passion to get out and make a change in
this world, and a passion to see a change in himself. I remember that feeling
well. Because it was exactly two years ago that I was crying out for God to
make me a man of integrity. I get it! I’ve walked that walk they are walking
now – to steal a line from Sawyer Brown! I want to be their guide, to help them
navigate this crazy path, to see them become the men and women they want to be.
a team of 26 people around the world. And I was completely honored that I got
to impact their lives and the lives of the people we ministered to. But now, I’m
getting a chance, not just to impact a squad of 26, but a program of 220 this
year, and then a 1000 participants in 2011.
don’t get me wrong – I’m still a missionary.
