After stumbling onto the World Race site, reading countless blogs and watching nonstop videos from racers on the field, my heart began to desire those adventures. My thoughts would be consumed with the racers and their stories on the field. The willing people who gave up a year of their life to “serve the least of these”, inspired me to seek into applying for the race.

The World Race is an 11 month missionary journey to 11 different countries to “serve the least of these”. What I thought I would be doing compared to what I am actually doing may come as a disappointment to you. Like me, you may have bought into the idea that I am changing the world in impactful ways that no one would ever forget. However, I have come to realization that “serving the least of these” is not about the Hollywood Movie Clips of miracles taken place before our eyes. It is about the acts of service that no one notices or pay mind to as “serving the least of these”.

“Serving the least of these” is not only done unto unbelievers, but for believers as well.

It is …

  • Respecting our hosts
  • Serving our teammates
  • Thanking our supporters
  • Preparing dinner for your teammates
  • Handing out bible tracks one village at a time
  • Weeding someone’s home
  • Babysitting the children for local missionaries
  • Teaching English
  • Carrying groceries for an elderly person
  • Being hugged, kissed and tackled by kids/elderly people
  • Cleaning up a shed

Essentially, our goal as racers is to assist our ministry contacts in the best way possible, even if it seems like a mundane assignment. Realistically, we are only in each country for a month and usually know very little about the country, the people and the ministry that is affective in the area. Our contacts are the one’s who are truly dedicated to that area and know how to best reach the people and our job is to serve them the best way they need.

You may be wondering, am I “serving the least of these”. My answer to you would be, “yes” because many of these ministry contacts go unnoticed and have little resources to reach their area. However, they do not lack zeal for the Lord and passion to reach their area for Christ.

(First day in Ocnita, Moldova and we met Tamara. She gave me 10 kisses on the cheek).

I am “serving the least of these”

Everyone is able to "serve the least of these". When is the last time you did something for someone to show the love of Christ to them? It's not about what you do but your intention behind it. I challenge you to "serve the least of these" once each week out of obedience to Christ and denying your self for the needs of others.

Matthew 25:31-46, is about separating the sheep from the goat. The difference between the two is "serving the least of these".
