This weekend I was privilege to be a counselor for the 12 grade girls for D-Now or Disciple Now.  Our theme was ABANDON.  And this couldn’t have come at a more perfect time.  As I am preparing to go on this adventure of a lifetime, I know that God is preparing me for something amazing. And He is using everything around me to teach me that and to prepare my heart.  Lately, I have been going through a hard time spiritually.  A lot of spiritual warfare.  And God knew that I needed to hear the message of D-Now just as much as my girls.  Honestly, I didn’t even want to go but know I know why.

Lets look at what we learned.

Matthew 4:19-20 says," Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. Immediately they left their nets and followed Him."

Can we just take a moment and reread that? What key word(s) do you notice? For me, it’s the word "immediately" or some versions have "at once".  There was no hesitation or questions. They (Andrew and Peter) did not put Jesus on hold but they left AT ONCE. Wow!! When I finally grasped this concept, I was just blown away.  When Jesus was calling them to follow Him, He was asking them to "let go of the life they already knew."  And they did.

Matthew 4:21-22 has this to say, " Going from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John.  They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets.  Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed Him."

There are 4 important thing that take place in this verse.

  1. To abandon their plans-> preparing their nets
  2. To abandon their profession-> fisherman
  3. To abandon their possession-> boat
  4. To abandon their parents

So from this verse alone we see how serious following Jesus is.  We have to be 100% for Him or 100% against Him.  There is no in-between.  You cant be lukewarm.  You are either hot or cold.  And this verse again shows us that these two brothers did exactly that.  They left the world they knew, for the possibilities of the Lord.

So my questions is: Am I ready to let go of my possibilities for those of God?

Are you?
