Well actually this is a brief summary of what happened during the end of month 2 in Honduras. The entire squad stayed together for the entire month, except for one team. Each team then broke up to do different ministry work. This property was awesome it is owned by a loving couple who try to give kids off the street a chance to grow up knowing Christ's love and having other future life opportunities. The atmosphere was love and energy all the time, and that got wearisome. The passion those kids showed along with the exposure of seeing the streets and slums that they come from put a lot of things into perspective. One thing that spoke to me through this month was how much God showed up in such subtle ways and provided strength for the family in charge in such tough times.
It's not a big deal to have tolerance to have a child of your own, or even an adopted child. My question is how do you react when a child who might have only one pair of clothes and no way to shower shows up on your property asking for a chance? Ok, that might be an easy answer, but what about when that kid decides to steal from you or to disrespect you, how would you react then? All I know is that I saw compassion in those situations that could only come from one place, Christ. Now don't get me wrong if that kid continues to push the boundaries he or she was asked to leave in the hope that they would return. Almost every time they do return in some way not wanting to make the same mistakes. Its very similar to the parable about the lost son, but has nothing to do with squandering riches.
