I was accepted to the World Race at the end of June, but a pre-planned, seven week trip to China kind of postponed any WR preparations. My first financial deadline was October 2nd, and the amount was $3,500.
I got back from China on August 22nd. So I told myself, “Ok Rose, get moving. You have about six weeks to raise $3,500.”
So this was my list:
Write support letters.
Get supporter addresses.
Send support letters.
Follow up with phone calls (eek!)
Talk to my church.
Later I added:
Order Threads of Hope bracelets.
See about talking to Grandma’s church.
Everything and anything you can think of to raise this money by the deadlines.
I sent out almost 100 support letters, called about a dozen people (I still need to call more) and got the word out.
It’s been a bit scary really- moving back into my parent’s house, telling everyone that I am going on an 11 month trip for God, making it blatantly obvious what my faith is, putting myself out there in the cyber world and the real world, and asking people for money.
But it worked!!!
I am so so so thankful and so happy that I have made this deadline, exactly five weeks after I got back to the US.
And I still have to deposit cash from my garage sale this weekend, which I will bog about next…
