SUN

This month we entered Africa and my heart was really excited to experience a change. If you’ve been reading my previous blogs you know what God’s been doing in my life for the past 4 months that I was in Asia. A lot of cleaning. A lot of shifting. A lot of laying down. A lot of trust. But that’s what life with Christ looks like when we keep our eyes centered on Him. I want to keep that same heart for these next months in Africa. When we landed the first thing that I noticed was the big fat orange ball (like Lindsay calls it lol) in front of us. It was so orange and beautiful. I hardly ever notice the color of the sun but this time it was different. I had noticed it and that means something cause let’s set the record straight. I love nature but it’s not something to die for in my world. Some people are mesmerized by the sun, the moon, the stars, the clouds, trees, mountains, and the ocean (cough cough Hannah). I’m more of the city skylines, building designs, coffee shops, streets full of people, and festivals type of guy. Little did I know what Africa was about.

HIGHLANDS

As we traveled into Botswana I kept seeing so much nature around us. We were completely surrounded by highlands. Not just any highlands. The most beautiful highlands I have ever seen. Then I saw my life upon those highlands. My highs and my lows. My triumphs and my struggles. I saw this year and I asked myself, “Where has the Lord been?” It didn’t take long for me to realize that God has been in all of it. He’s been in my heartaches, in my joyful moments and in my doubts. I don’t ever have to search for Him. He’s always there. He’s not hard to find cause he goes before me and He’s always with me. I saw God in the beauty of the sun and the highlands.

STARS

That week our team got together to worship and pray for what the Lord had for us in Botswana. We were under a little hut for a couple of hours and the sun had gone down. As we were worshipping Sam came over and asked me if I had seen the stars. I told her I wasn’t a big “nature” guy and I didn’t really care. She told me “No have you seen the AFRICAN STARS?” I told her no and she said: “Ok come.” As we were walking I was thinking in my head “Ugh I don’t really care about these stars but whatever I’ll go.” I lifted my head to see the sky and it left me amazed. I had never seen a starry night like that one in my life. They were so bright and beautiful. I just stood there for a moment, speechless. God is legit the real deal. I wish everyone reading this blog could see them. God created every single one of those stars and calls them by name (Psalm 147:4). Can you believe that??!! MIND BLOWING.

Africa has seriously made me open up my eyes to nature on a whole new level. I want to encourage you to do the same. Have your eyes open to God’s creation around you. The sunrise, the clouds, the rain, the flowers, the trees, the sunset, the highlands, the moon, and the stars. Ask yourself, “How is God speaking to me through this?” I also want you to take a moment to listen to this song that inspired me to write this blog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkbxP0rxt6E
