Over 80 hours of travel around the world and for what? Each of us was ready and expected to be delivered to the doors of a ministry. But God who is constantly in control and ready to stretch and challenge each of us had another plan.

(Our ride from the Thailand airport “Tuk Tuk” transportation )

We arrived in the city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia and heard that our ministry in the rural areas of Cambodia had fallen through.

Our contact already had another ministry that he was seeking out, so we were not too discouraged.

And then later that day we found out that ministry had fallen through as well. The next day as teams went out to leave the city or go a different part of the city, we began wondering what God had planned for our team.

(We stayed in the capital of Thailand for one night and headed on to Cambodia)

The next day we were given the choice of a prison ministry or teaching English with high school age students. We decided the prison ministry only to later that day to find out they both had fallen through. We were not expecting to not have a set ministry.

During this time I had been reading in Judges about Gideon. Gideon was chosen by God to rescue the Israelites from the Midianites and yet Gideon was the least in his entire family. All the odds were against him and yet God desired to use him.

Teams headed off to their continued ministry days. We sat and asked God to guide us, where did He desire to use us?

We prayed as a team and individually for God’s guidance, for Him to speak and for us to listen. Our team was unsure whether to continue to pray about what to do, where to go, or to simply just go.

During these days I continue to read about Gideon. In Judges 6:18 Gideon is unsure if God is really talking to him, so just to make sure he brings him an offering. The offering quickly vanishes as the angel of the Lord puts his staff on the offering and fire consumes it. Gideon realizes it was God that was talking to him. Then in Judges 6:33-40 Gideon is consistently questioning whether God is going to truly use him to rescue Israel as God had already promised him. Gideon in these verses asks God for signs and God gives them to him.

Does FEAR overtake us? Do we then in turn ask God to use signs and confirmations to speak to us the first messages HE already spoke to us?
