I
have a feeling just from this last week that this is going to be the
hardest month yet. We are in Thailand working with girls caught up in
prostitution. So, basically what we’re doing is going into the bars
at night and building relationships with the girls. Our goal is to
hopefully bring them hope and show them that they are of worth.
For a lot of the girls it’s the
only way they can survive. Some come from extremely poor families so
their parents tell them they have to go and make money to send home.
Others get married, have children and then their husband leaves them
and for most the only option to be able to feed their children is to
sell themselves.
It is absolutely heartbreaking
going in. It’s like watching a well thought out game. I watch as
these girls tease the men, smile and laugh but through it all you can
clearly see the emptiness in their eyes and the hopelessness. At
first a lot of anger rose towards the men and then God opened my eyes
to the fact that He loves these men just as much as He loves the
girls. They are lost and just as empty. They’re spending their lives
seeking fulfillment in entirely the wrong place.
One evening while I was praying in
preparation to go out God brought me to 2 Cor. 2:14-15 But thanks be
to God who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and
through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of Him everywhere,
For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved
and among those who are perishing. This verse was a good reminder to
me that for one Christ already has victory over darkness so we can
move forward knowing exactly where we stand and two, He uses us to
spread Himself to others. My prayer this month is that God would use
me to touch hearts with the knowledge of Christ and hopefully bring
them to His kingdom.
