Below is a large portion of a recent blog that my friend Ashley recently wrote. I think A LOT of ppl can relate to various topics that she discussed so asked her about passing it onto all of you. It's a little on the long side, but very much worth the read.

It's all about perspective

“Trauma destroys a sense of self-protection, personal invulnerability, and safety in a world that has lost all predictability.” – Jennifer Erin Beste
Loss of security, loss of peace, loss of self, reconciling the past and deciding how to respond to the future. This is what I have been grappling with the last few days. It seems to me that at times, God reveals life’s lessons in thematic units. Ideas and concepts seem to revolve around a core topic which I am attempting to decipher meaning from. Right now, I am wading through the meaning inherent in suffering and healing. Everywhere I look recently, I am inundated with themes of victimization, survival, and restoration.

I believe that it is impossible to navigate through this world of ours without experiencing pain, hardship, and varying levels of trauma. Yet, how we deal with our trials has great significance for how we view this world and our place within in. As Holocaust survivor Viktor E. Frankl said, “An exceptionally difficult external situation gives man the opportunity to grow spiritually beyond himself… Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”

I know that our struggles make us stronger and give us the ability to help others. I know the beauty of drawing strength from God when in a state of helplessness … “He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” 2 Corinthians 1:4. This gives me hope. When I focus my attention on others, when I live not for myself, then my experiences and struggles have meaning. It’s all about perspective and what we choose to put our faith in. I put my faith in my Lord!
