The first week of December my WR account sat at $4,500. I had thirteen days to raise $2,000 to meet my last deadline and I had no idea where that money was going to come from. It takes an entire two weeks just to process a donation given to World Race. I posted the blog “$2,000 IN TWO WEEKS” and God accepted the challenge. Four days later He provided $2,000 in TWELVE HOURS.
I drove to Boone on the first Wednesday of December hoping to gather some spiritual support from my friends and church family. I had faith that if I simply visited the town for a few days that the money would show up. (When I signed up for WR I had been living in Boone for five years. I moved two hours away to live with family and save money during the transition.)
SO I spent four days catching up with friends, spreading the word about fundraising, and praying about the deadline.
Saturday night rolled around, I was leaving Boone the next day, and I still hadn’t raised a single dollar. Talking with my mom on the phone, I had to tell her I wasn’t any closer to raising $2,000. I could hear the nervousness in her voice. “Well, maybe you could sell donuts,” she said. How could I explain to her that five months ago the Lord put it on my heart to buck up and simply ASK people for support? At the beginning of this whole thing I wrote out a huge list of fundraising ideas, with “krispy kreme donuts” scribbled halfway down the page. Shortly after writing that list I realized that raising $15,000 is more than selling donuts or having yard sales. I needed to humble myself and ask the people of the church to step up simply give to my cause.
Around midnight that night I met with my two good friends Caroline and Matt to pray. After we prayed, my friend Caroline told me that she had been praying for a long time about donating to this mission, and her family decided to match whatever she gave me. She told me they’d be donating $1,000.
Loved is the only way to describe how I felt then. Completely loved by the sacrifice of a dear friend.
The next morning at church, just minutes before I was leaving Boone, a guy who requested a support letter several months back approached me. “I know you still need $2,000, so let me know when you get $1,000 and I’ll match it.”
Done. And done.
These past six months have been a time of deep growth and trust in the Lord’s provision, and even though I’ve struggled the entire way through, God has remained faithful.
So far I’ve raised $7,011, and over the next six months I’ll need to raise $8,500 more by July 1st in order to stay on the field. Please consider supporting me through a one-time donation, or by giving $50 or $100 per month for the next six months.
