Working at Asha Nepal was a lot of work emotionally. When God calls you to love others he doesn’t ask for a part of your heart he asks for more than 100%. When you give 100% he provides the rest so you can love above and beyond your natural abilities. While I was there all of the children stole my heart from the youngest to the oldest. At first I was worried about how I could Love them. I prayed that the Holy Spirit would give me the Fathers heart, and he did by the end of the month I loved them as if they were my own. As we lived with them I began to understand what my own parents must have felt at times. In the end it was simply love that they needed, someone to check their homework, play with them, watch movies, play wrestle, etc. With one boy at the home he was home by himself for most of the day while all the others were at school. He had to sit out of school for the year because the system took too long to put his papers in order. It was sad because he seemed to become more introverted because of this so as part of the plan to do daily devotions for all of the children Justin and I decided to include him in whatever we planned to do. When he first did a skit he was David and I was Goliath and that seemed to begin to brighten his day and even grant him more attention from the other children. One day we decided to make a music video to Toby Mac’s Diverse City at first he seemed unsure of what we were doing while filming and telling him how to act but once he saw the final product his face lit up like the 4th of July it was priceless. Even when the other kids saw it he became a hero to all of them he turned from being slightly marginal among the kids to being the one they wanted on their soccer team. It’s amazing what small acts of love can do and transform the simplest of communities so here it is:
