That any super hero needs to have in him is love for those who have been affected by great evil and injustice. It’s easy to read stories of great atrocities and be filled with anger and rage for the villains that harm them but that can easily blind anyone from the true issue at hand. Love is what one needs its an unconditional love for those who are in pain is what moves individuals from talking about an issue to actually doing something about it. Love that is transforming and epic; especially love from God. At Asha Nepal I was able to see God’s love at work, to feel a part of his heart, and maybe learn what it takes to save the world.
Living at Asha Nepal you could never guess the past of the women the injustice that was done to them and their children. The community there is one full of love. The uniqueness of this love is hard to describe in one sense you have to experience what it is. Although some of these women still have pain both emotional, physical, and spiritual they lives they live now are proof that God’s love heals all wounds and transcends ones past to redeem a life no matter what has been done to them by others, regardless of what the world says. God during my time there allowed me to feel his heart for the women and children of Asha Nepal, as amazing as it was it was a little overwhelming. Yet when it is his heart I was able to love and act regardless of my own past, faults and failures. God tell us that his love for us is passionate and strong that he is consumed with passion for us (Zechariah 8:2-3). To think that our group was lucky enough to be taking part in this transforming love and healing process, be extensions of his love at work.
By the end of the month I was filled with a love for them that if necessary would have allowed/compelled me to lay down my life for them. Compelled to love them no matter what time of the day whether its at 6 am so the children can give you their valentines Day, or 9pm and as you want to go to bed the older boys want to have a sleep over and watch movies on a school night. It’s the same love that allows any superhero to do what they do. Its Superman’s love for earth, humanity, and those closest to him that makes his job enjoyable, gives reason to put on the S. As I go on my pseudo journey to become a superhero I’ve realized that a desire to fight injustice isn’t enough I need to consumed with love for those injustice affects directly and indirectly, just as God is. I guess as I continue to this journey I have to search my heart more in-depth seeing where and who God is calling me to be passionate with love for.
