In life, we get to make choices. One of those choices is to choose to listen to God and his will, trusting that he knows best, not just for you, but for all his children. Weeks ago, when I was praying to God at the store for guidance and to show me what I should do now to glorify his name, he showed me a vision. It was of African plains. At first, I was like, Africa? Right now? Perhaps that’s when I’m older and can help out as a medical professional. But I found out that wasn’t the case when I was just looking through the internet and saw an ad for a mission trip over the summer. One of the options was Africa, so I dropped all my summer plans to do this trip. This may sound crazy to some people. Instead of doing something to earn money, I’m going to spend 2 months in Africa, giving my time with the only pay being the satisfaction of changing lives for the better through teaching them about the loving hand of God and how Jesus saves. But what can I say? Call me a Jesus Freak.
A little bit about my testimony is that when I was 3, I was diagnosed with apraxia – a neurological disorder that made it so I was unable to speak. Doctors said that I would only be able to speak up to 50 words without a machine. My mom prayed to God that I would be able to say just 3 very simple words. She wanted me to say, “I love you.” Throughout my journey, I learned to listen and through listening, I learned that everyone has a story. Everyone deserves love, for they were all made in God’s image. After 10 years, I finally was able to talk without the fear of being misunderstood. God wasn’t done answering my mom’s prayer though, for he had a greater plan. For me to say, “I love you,” not just through my words, but through my actions as well. I believe Africa is the next step to spread love through the Word of God.
