Since yesterday evening at 8 PM, Adventures in Missions has been having a 24 hour prayer and worship time, a time to come before God, worshipping His name and listening to Him as we tell Him our needs and desires.  Even in the short time I’ve been here, it’s been a wonderful time of hearing from Him and singing songs of worship.  I love times like these.

But here’s the thing.  Just as I was beginning to think about how much I love these types of moments, I heard God ask me why 24 hour prayer was an event.   Shouldn’t my life be a constant event of prayer and worship?  When did the command to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) turn into “pray before meals, at special events, and when we really really need something”?

When I lead a Passport trip to Uganda, I had opportunities to worship with the local Ugandans.  I saw people, from primary school students to high school students to elderly adults, worshipping and praying with intensity, not formal theological prayers but raw, real, emotional prayers.  And I have no doubt that these were not just moments but a constant practice in their lives.

That’s what I want my life to look like.  Not a life that just prays at 24 hour events or when I remember or when my life is hard, but every moment of every day, to be constantly aware of His presence and to be in constant communion with Him.  What about you?  Is this true of your life?

If my people, who are called by my name, humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
