Bon Swa everyone!! I’m currently writing this blog from our ministry site in Port Au Prince, Haiti. My six teammates and I are at the house of Pastor Jean Claude. We will be here doing ministry in the area for the rest of July. I’m not completely sure on the details of what we’ll be doing, but the possibilities are VBS, orphanage ministry, and food ministry. There are 3 other teams in Haiti in other parts of the country doing different ministry. The other 7 teams remained in the Dominican Republic to do ministry there. Next month, my team, with the other 3 teams, will travel to the DR, and the other 7 teams will come to Haiti. We got to Haiti yesterday but got to our official ministry place today. There are several kids here to play with which has been amazing today. I should be able to upload some photos sometime in the next few days. Driving through Port Au Prince today was an eye opening experience. The earthquake damage was actually, in my opinion, less devastating than the media makes it seem. Yeah, there’s plenty of damage but there’s also plenty of undamaged builidings (like the amazing house we’re staying in for example). But of course the media only shows the bad. But regardless of how much earthquake damage exists, Haiti was a extremely poor country before the earthquake and is still an extremely poor country today. I was struck by the immense poverty seen as we drove through the streets. Haiti is definitely a country in need of hope and love, and I’m excited to see God use us this month.
