So on Sunday, we went to the church of Pastor Jean Claude, the man whose house we are living at while in Haiti. Two important things: one, the church service was 4 hours long (the first song alone was 30 minutes long), and they said that was a short service; two, if you ever wanna lose weight, I recommend wearing long pants, a long sleeve dress shirt and a tie in Haiti in July. In spite of these things, it was an amazing experience. It was so humbling but also a blessing to see the amazing joy that the people at the church had while they worshipped Jesus. These are people who have nothing but worship like they have everything. These are people of whom (Don’t I sound so sophisticated using “whom”?) many lost everything in the earthquake but they worship like they have lost nothing of importance. These people are truly in love with Jesus (by the way, in Creole, the pronunciation of “Jesus” kinda sounds like “Jay-z.” Every time I hear it, I wanna be like, “Go on! Brush your shoulder off!” But that doesn’t seem appropriate in church.) These people truly understand losing everything worldly but gaining everything in Christ Jesus.
So after worship ended (so about 2 hours into the 4 hour service), Pastor Jean Claude gets up and welcomes us American missionaries. And then proceeds to say that the missionaries are all gonna get up and share whatever God is telling them. At which point I looked around for the other missionaries that I must not have seen yet. Unfortunately, I didn’t see another group of missionaries and realized that he was talking about us. So even though I freaked out at first, it actually turned out to be a really cool time. It was amazing to see God speak through every single one of us. After a few of my teammates went first, I got up and spoke. I talked about how it was such a blessing to watch them worship and see the absolute joy that they had in Christ. I then went on to encourage them that the people of Haiti can see their joy, too. I read Matthew 5:16, “let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” And I encouraged them to let their light shine for the people of Haiti. Overall, it was an awesome 4 hours of Haitian church.

Please continue to be in prayer for my team and me and our ministry (I should have a blog update about our minstry so far by tomorrow.)  Pray for the people of Haiti.
Also, I still need about 1600 to be fully funded.  If you feel God calling you to support me financially, please contact me ([email protected]) to see how you can help.
And of course, if you haven’t yet signed up for update alerts, put your email address in the box on the left of this page.
