There I was standing in a large room-dark, damp and eerie yet strangely familiar. It was a prison with three holding cells; one opposite the door and one on each of the outside walls. The one on the right wall was bigger than the other two and could definitely hold more prisoners. I knew this place. But how did I know it? Déjà vu? No, it wasn’t that. As I stood there, I noticed there were labels above each cell. My eyes were quickly drawn to the one above the large cell; Lust.
As you probably figured out, this wasn’t prison ministry. This was a vision I got from the Lord when I was praying. And it didn’t stop there.
I walked into the cell labeled, ‘Lust’ and had a strong sense that this was different than what I would normally describe as lust. It was lust, not only in sexual desire, but as an overwhelming desire for something that I didn’t have. I closed the jail cell door behind me. After that, I looked at the wall and there were shakels hanging from it-each with their own label. I found myself walking over to the one labeled, ‘Lust of the Eyes.’ I put the skakels on and they felt all too familiar and strangely comfortable. I sat there in this prison cell that wasn’t locked in shakels that couldn’t bind me. Why was I here? Then He spoke: “You are free, my son; completely and utterly free. You can use your freedom to choose the jail cell and shakels or you can get up, throw them off and walk out of the cell and the prison all together. I’ve bought your freedom and it will never, never be taken from you! Your enemy has convinced you for so long that you’re bound. But you are so very free! I want you to leave this place and use your freedom to never choose it again. I cannot choose it for you or it wouldn’t be freedom anymore. But I will never leave your side as you learn how to walk in the freedom I’ve bought for you. Be free, my son!”
We are free! Don’t choose the prison, the cell, or the shakels with that freedom! We are not bound by anything if we are in Christ Jesus! Hold onto that truth and be free today!
