6 He existed in the form of God, yet he gave no thought to seizing equality with God as his supreme prize. 7 Instead he emptied himself of his outward glory by reducing himself to the form of a lowly servant. He became human! 8 He humbled himself and became vulnerable, choosing to be revealed as a man and was obedient. He was a perfect example, even in his death—a criminal’s death by crucifixion! Philippians 2:6-8 TPT
Have you ever heard a lyric and thought, “whaaaaat?!”
One of my close friends recently asked me about a song that I hadn’t paid a lot of attention to before.
In the chorus, Will Reagan sings “may a broken God be known.”
My friend’s question was, “Why is God broken? What is broken about Him? Aren’t we the broken ones?”
After some research, I fell head over heels for the message of this song.
The answer is found in the context of the rest of the chorus.
Chorus:
“I am looking for a savior I can see and know and touch
one who dwells within the midst of us
May a broken God be known within the earth beneath our feet,
let our souls behold humility
let our souls behold humility
United Pursuit drummer, Nathan Fray, explained: Jesus, who became broken on our behalf, lavishly extends “the sympathy of heaven” – He knows what we’re going through. He’s not millions of miles away. He’s in the dirt with us. He’s in the mess…
THAT IS GOOD NEWS!
