On one of our last nights in Guatemala my squad worshiped together in the courtyard of our hostile. As we worshiped, people from the streets began to show up. Two cops came and joined us in our worship, followed by a couple, Jim and Karen, who were on a medical mission, and a collection of others. Some stayed and just watched, and some videoed us. At first the people videoing us made me uncomfortable and distracted, but then I realized my squad was ministering to them without even saying anything directly towards them. In this moment I realized that life is mission and sharing the gospel doesn’t have to be through conversation, it can simply be shown through 50 teenagers raising their hands and voices to the Lord.
After we finished worshiping we got the opportunity to pray for Jim and Karen and the cops. Then they prayed for us. After that Jim explained to us that they had done about 70 medical mission trips so they were constantly leaving home, but no matter where they went the Lord gave them brothers and sisters in Christ to remind them that even if they weren’t “home” they were, because Christ was always with them. I was so comforted by these words because recently I had been praying about what the Lord wanted me to do after the race and I realized that if he called me to long term missions I would have to say yes. Saying yes would mean not seeing my family for long periods of time. It would mean giving up everything I was used to and everything that makes me comfortable. But like Jim said, home is everywhere because Jesus is everywhere, so I don’t need to be afraid about losing those comforts because he will provide for me home wherever he sends me.
This has nothing to do with what I just wrote… lol… but I wanted to give a quick little update. My squad is currently in Los Angeles on a 24 hour layover and our flight will be leaving late tonight. We should arrive in Thailand by Thursday evening sometime. ALSO if you didn’t already know… we had a route change, so after a month in Thailand we will be going to Myanmar for a month and then another month in Thailand after that, followed by our last 3 months in Swaziland. And just a quick thanks to you guys for your constant support and prayers. I couldn’t do it without you all.
