Wednesday night was spent sitting on the dirty bathroom floor while Hannah combed the lice out of Abby’s hair, and Abby combed the lice out of mine. It was a pretty hysterical image honestly. We listened to High School Musical, laughed, and pulled each others hair out for hours. Yeah it was kinda gross, but weirdly enough it was one of my favorite nights so far on the race. It was the least glamorous moment I’ve had yet, but that made it all the more beautiful.

I’ve only known my teammates for a few months, but I can already say they are my family. Not only do they pick through my lice, but they encourage me, they comfort me on my hard days, they serve me in the ways that I need most, they make me laugh to the point of peeing my pants, and most importantly they push me closer to Jesus everyday. This race would look a lot different if it weren’t for my incredible team and new sisters.

Personally, I believe that the Lord sometimes has to get me to the point of sitting on a gross floor, with cold water running down my back, and hair all over me, to realize how good I’ve really got it. Sure there are bugs in my hair, but what a small price too pay for the opportunity to further the Kingdom with my best friends for nine whole months. Thanks God for giving me humility. Thanks God for the best, best friends. Thanks God for laughter. Thanks God for your goodness in the midst of the enemy trying to destroy. Thanks God that you are never failing. Thanks God that it is so easy to love you, because even in the midst of gross circumstances, you still bring ultimate joy.

It’s the best life knowing Jesus, especially while having people to do it with you. I’m definitely willing to have a little lice if that’s what it takes to know him better and gain incredible community.
