So from the title you can already tell that this day in particular was a little harder than most days. The morning was just a little rough because of some stuff I was going through and I had to do laundry… which y’all be thankful for your nice fancy laundry machines cause I haven’t smelt like pretty flowers for the past while since washing my clothes means rubbing them with a bar of soap on a cement box… so this unfortunately resulted in me not wanting to go to ministry. Nonetheless, I got on the crowded smelly chicken bus and went anyways. When we got there I walked into the classroom and about 5 minutes later a dog literally came up right behind me and peed on my feet. All over my chacos. I just closed my eyes and prayed for some patience… more like begged for some. With pee on my feet and no way to really clean them it was time for me to give the bible study I had prepared for my soccer girls. I put on a smile and sat in the grass with them.

That is when my heart was softened again.

I got to just talk to them, and get to know them. I wasn’t their coach or just another “gringo” (white person) I was their friend and they were all mine. I got to share about the “frutas del espíritu” (fruits of the spirit) and how we look like Jesus when we follow those nine characteristics he gives us to live by. Then one of the girls asked if I would share my testimony so I got to let them in. I got to share what I have struggled with and how good God was through it and all. I got to tell them how worth it is living a life that sometimes you get peed on… but mostly you get to walk in genuine joy. Then we got to play lots of soccer, have lots of laughs and take lots of selfies.

The Lord took a day that included getting peed on and made it a day I will remember as a day filled with love and lots of fun. He reminded me of childlike faith, and that it’s not all about the religion and knowing every scripture, but it’s about relationship. Its about the selfies and laughs y’all.

To finish off this day, I got home from ministry to all the boys on my squad asking the girls to dress up and wait outside the dining hall where they proceeded to let a few of us in at a time to wash our feet. After that they took us to our seats, marked by name tags that were also personal notes written for each girl to keep. They served us dinner and we finished the night with swing dancing, well kind of, and lots of laughter. Sorry to the boy who had to wash my pee feet, but God knew I needed it.
