For the past 3 weeks I have been doing ministry in an incredibly special place, Agape Home. I knew from the day we heard we were going to be here it was going to be special, mostly considering my teams name is Agape.
Agape Home is an orphanage for kids from one month old to high school age who suffer from HIV or are at risk of getting it due to their families. We have been doing many things for the Home, like making jump ropes, cleaning, organizing baby clothes… the list goes on, but the best part by far is the time spent with the kids.
During the day the older kids are in school so we spend our time with the preschool aged kids and babies. We have gotten to dance, jump around and play, we have gotten to swim (a lot), and we’ve gotten to ignore the heartbreaking reality of some of these kids for a little while and just have fun. That reality is, it’s basically impossible to adopt kids with HIV, and most people wouldn’t even if they could. So basically these kids are sent here to live here permanently, no family. No true home.
Being here this month was hard because it feels like you can’t do anything. It’s like, I’m here to love on them for a few weeks, but then who’s going to do it after me? They do have nannies (who also suffer from HIV) that love them so well, but it doesn’t change the fact that the kids will always feel different and probably unwanted due to their situation.
I wanted to make a real difference before I left this place, so I decided to sponsor one of my favorite little boys. He was abused as a kid so he has a number of other problems which makes him even farther down on the list of potential kids for adoption. Since I’m 18 years old and it’s slightly illegal to try and fit him in my pack and take him with me, I decided to give him the money he needed every month for his meds, clothes, foods, etc. It’s only $35 a month and every year they will send me updates and pictures so it’s like he’s always apart of my life even from 8,500 miles away.
(I mean come on. Isn’t he the cutest?)
Please let me know if you want to donate or even sponsor a kid monthly. It would mean the world to me and to them. Here is the website (http://www.nikkisplace.org/donate/) If you want to sponsor a kid monthly just make your amount $35.00 and check the box for monthly. If you want it to be a specific child that you can keep up with, just contact the people of Agape home on that same website and they will get you more information, be sure to do that before donation. Thanks for considering!
It’s kingdom building y’all!!!
