As we finally left the airport and piled onto the “chicken bus” in Guatemala City, I began to feel a little overwhelmed, and a little like “what did I just sign up for.” I sat by the window and tried to take a million mental pictures of all the new things I was seeing. About 10 minutes into the trip to our new home at Aventuras en Misiones, I saw a soccer field, and then about 5 minutes later I saw another and then a little later I saw a small boy with a ball on the street. Then I heard Jesus say “Even though you won’t be “home” for the next 9 months, I will make you feel as if you are.”

For those of you that don’t know me, I love soccer, and finishing my final season this year was extremely hard for me, so seeing those fields made me feel at home even when I was thousands of miles away.

When we got to the base we had a lesson by our team elders. Tanya’s husband, Kevin, said “God wants to put you where your passions are,” and I felt like that was aimed right at me. I know God wants to challenge and shape us, but sometimes I forget that he also wants us to do the things we love while we share about him. When we put the Lord in the center of our passions it gives them the opportunity to be more than just something we like and do, but instead a way to share the gospel.

Who knew a ball of tied up plastic bags and an open field could potentially lead someone to having eternal life.
