About two weeks ago, as my gal teammates and I tried to giggle ourselves into any kind of slumber I asked them to tell me a bedtime story. It quickly became a tale about a princess who decided to follow some random creepy old man onto his boat. Silly though it was, my heart turned to the dangers of doing such a thing…
Disclaimer: I can be quite an airhead. Lemme re-word that…a slave to the simplicities of the world. And in that I tend to get lost in the simplicities and don't venture out into the seriousness of what's really happening around the world. But God is good at reminding me that I'm not the only one here. A lot of the time it's a quick back-hand to the heart. Which at first you may think sounds horrible…but it's needed. God is a God whose heart breaks for the injustices in the world and since I have asked Him countless times before to show me His heart it would be silly of me to deny the heart break that He feels. It would be rude of me to deny a part when I've asked for the whole thing.
So, to continue with our tale of the giggling girls in Albania…
I got a sharp pang in my heart when thinking about the things that could happen after the innocent Princess got onto that boat. Call it paranoia, call it crazy, I think it was God. Because, like some kind of emotional drunk, I instantly went from laughing and being giddy to heartbroken and terrified at the thought that there are real women and children in slavery. Right now.
I stopped the girls mid-bedtime story and asked if we could pray. I didn't know what else to do. My heart was racing rapidly through feelings of empathy, desperation, and hopelessness. I didn't like the thought that there were people living their lives in complete anguish while I laughed and joked with my close friends. People captured, manipulated and even sold into bondage.
I know that God would not remind me of this issue for no reason. There is a good possibility that my team and I will be working with women stuck in the Sex Trade while we are in Thailand, one of the largest Sex Trade capitols of the world. So please partner with us in prayer about this injustice. If you're interested in learning more about it check out the following website:
