Gracie, our current host, told us of a ministry right down the road from her that was under construction and very very new. It was so new that Gracie didn’t really know for sure where it was located. We decided to walk around the area to see if we could find it. After walking nearly all the way around the block and asking as many as we saw if they knew where it was, we found the spot. And sure enough, there they were still laying the foundation for the porch on the first building. We met the full time missionary Kim Pate and the Executive Director of the organization supporting her named Brenda Robinson. We could tell right from the get go that they were on fire for the Lord and their ministry was a fantastic one.
Their intention is to have different areas on the property which they can hire local Hondurans to come and work and earn a paycheck, then on top of that, teach about finances and budgeting. What it means to tithe as a part of your budgeting and how everything you earn is a gift from the Lord to be stewarded well. In addition, there are plans to build a children’s home combination soup kitchen where kids who have no place to stay for the night can be sheltered and fed in a safe place instead of the street. Listening to them explain this was truly inspiring. Their souls were bu
rning to get this ministry started and couldn’t wait to be finished with the house.
Even more amazing is the explanation of the house. The Organization, New Desire Ministries, is headquartered in Cedar Jones, Georgie just a couple hours south of Gainesville which of course where AIM’s offices are. Anyway, turns out, they know exactly who we are and are building this house with World Racers in mind. 9 bedrooms with bunks, running water inside the house, wifi, and plenty of work to be done. Their plans are to be finished with the house by September and they can start accepting mission teams soon after.
