I was recently asked how many days were left until we leave for our trip.  The people asking were surprised that I didn’t know the answer.  “I thought you would be so excited to go that you would know the countdown to the minute” they stated.

It is not that I am not excited about our trip, I am.  I am trying to heed the sage advice given to us at training camp  to “not wish our time away.”  It can be very easy to get excited about the next big change and start focusing on it rather than being present where you are.  It starts with counting down to leaving for the trip and then it turns into the countdown to returning home, the count down to leaving  one country to the next, the countdown to ending the week of ministry, and so on.  These countdowns take your focus from where you are to where you think you want to be.  In the meantime, you miss out on what is around you and the great experiences you can have now.

It is my goal to be present in these last couple weeks as we prepare to leave for our trip.  I am very much aware that my days remaining in the states are numbered and there is a lot that I have to get done before we leave.  I want to enjoy the time I have left to spend with my family and friends. So please help hold me accountable to this!
