One of the ministries that we had a pleasure of working with is Heart Of Christ ministries run by an American couple. They came to Honduras over 10 years ago for a short-term mission trip and when leaving Honduras to go home, they felt like they were leaving home. They soon left the comforts of the US to move to Honduras. For the purposes of this blog they will be referred to as Larry and Mary.

Larry and Mary’s testimony is a true walk in faith. It inspires me seeing how much they listen to what the Lord says. God told them their first task was to help rebuild a police station across the street from their house, and so they did. Mary soon found herself answering the door to policemen saying that they needed her to go with them on rescue missions to help victims of violence. After that, she began to work directly with the police in helping protect people that were victims of violence. She wrote policies and initiated programs to help with reporting, investigating, and closing domestic violence cases. This amazing work did not go unnoticed by the enemy. She as had several death threats sent to her and there has been several attempts on her life.

Honduras is known as the murder capital of the world; murder isn’t even half of the problem here. Violence of all types are prevalent throughout the country. Women especially are often victims of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. Cases often go unreported because a lack of resources and internal corruption prevent the police from being able to work efficiently.

Out of this violence grows a need to help the victims. That is where Heart of Christ comes in. Heart of Christ has taken in several children who have been abused and abandoned and has provided them a home. Many of the children they take care of are products of rapes or have been sexually assaulted in their life. Also, Heart of Christ is a refuge for women (often young girls) who have been raped and are pregnant. Larry and Mary treat everyone who enter through their door like their own. I often hear Mary refer to them as her daughters.

The work they are doing is amazing. God’s hand is truly at work through them.
