My connection with God has definetly gotten stronger. Thursday morning our team had scheduled an early start to practice and prepare material for Friday’s events. We planned to have a special event at a nearby school in the morning and then lead a worship service in a Catholic church down the road in the next neighborhood over. Thursday was our prep day to put everything together and practice.

However, I had unavoidably staid up late Wednesday night, plus did not sleep well. Come Thursday morning, I was a zombie. I sat up in bed, drowsy, and crusty eyed trying to force myself out of bed. That’s when I heard a voice say, “Rest.” I ignored it. I didn’t have time to sleep anymore, I had to get up and get started. I heard Him say it again, “Rest.” No. I can’t; there is too much to do. Again, He said, “Rest.”

Fine. I laid back down and was instantly off into a deep sleep. Half and hour later, I heard a voice say, “Get up!” and I did. I woke up as if I had a full night’s rest. I was ready to start the day full of energy and was still the first one to get out of bed.

As I reflected on the events of the morning, I realized that I audibly heard the voice of God and obeyed it. However, even more importantly that hearing it, or obeying it, I recognized it. Something so simple but it’s been the very thing I’ve been praying for.

It’s the kind of connection I want with Christ all the time. Normal conversation and love. Something as simple as knowing that it was ok to go back to sleep and He would wake me up with still plenty of time to get the job done. The kind of connection that is just a like a relationship I would have with friends and family.
