Today my team and a few squad members who came to visit were blessed to be taken on our adventure day to Bâlea Lake! We had no idea what we were in for, until we arrived. It was quite possibly one of the most beautiful sights I’ve ever seen! Five of our local friends from the church went with us in three cars, and it took two hours to get there. We left before 8am. When we got there, we had to ride a cable car pretty far over to get to the lake. We got out of the cable car and made our way out to some rocks. The snow was VERY deep, and I was wearing my mesh Nike shoes and some sweatpants. Myself and others had a bit of a panic when trying to cross the snow and getting our entire bottom half of our body in a snow hole, and feeling like you can’t move. It was intense! I was slipping, and at one point completely sliding down the snow (easier than walking), but it was a blast! I saw a real igloo! I took a video but it’s not posted–there were ice tables, chairs, a bed, a statue, and a couch, but unfortuantely it was all melting away quickly. While at Bâlea Lake, I DID NOT SEE A LAKE. But I saw a beautiful winter wonderland and the most dangerous road in Romania! It is closed until the summer because of the snow, but if I come back to Romania, I’d love to see this place when it’s warm, you can drive on the road, and actually see the lake!! Afterwards we went to see a lovely city by the name of Sibiu, then headed back home.
