I remember when I was accepted to the World Race. I remember being thrilled and excited about all God was going to do. I remember learning of what some of the possibilities would be for countries we would be traveling to. I remember hearing about Asia. I turned to my mother and said, “I’m sure most of the work we will be doing will be with orphans around the world, that seems to be what these mission groups do, but the one thing I am praying for, the one thing I want more than anything is to do prostitution ministry in Thailand. I will serve at every orphanage in the world if I can do prostitution ministry.” Fast forward about 6 months, and where do I find myself? Phuket, Thailand and SHE. God is so faithful to the desires of my heart. Not only did He allow me to do prostitution ministry, but He placed me in the exact area I needed to be. He placed me with the women who have come out of this life. SHE, Self Help and Empowerment is an amazing organization that provides opportunities for women who no longer want to be part of the bar scene to find employment and housing. The month of May was truly my favorite month. I loved going out every night, six nights a week, and meeting new and amazing women and men. I loved having the opportunity to pray with and share the gospel with many who had never heard of Jesus Christ. I loved being able to show the true love of Christ to people who were once believers but were now unsure. I loved being able to provide an alternative to the career choice they had picked. Most of all, I loved being able to intercede on behalf of all of the men and women I would meet and all of the people I would see.
During the day I loved being able to work side by side the women who make jewelry and chocolates. I loved baking with the girls! I enjoyed spending time with them at the house and just really living in community. What a truly amazing experience.
Leaving SHE has been very difficult for me. I realiz
e that in order to truly fall in love with our next destination, I must first surrender my previous location. Though my mind knows all the logical reasons behind everything, my heart refuses to listen. My heart is broken in pieces because I so feel like I should still be there. My mind tells me to release the women I have met and to trust God with them. My heart says I do trust God with them and feels like there is more of a reason that He brought them into my life, then to just let them go now. I battle back and forth and pray God will just give me a heart for Africa and heart for what He wants me to do. I am so grateful He granted me the desires of my heart, and now it’s time to lay it down and pick up the next thing He has called me to do. I am certain Africa will grab my heart just as every other country has.
