“You satisfy me more than the richest feast.” Psalms 63:5

Saturday night we went out to a rural village and were supposed to be doing a film outreach with The Passion of the Christ, but with the rain we had to switch plans. Instead ICM (International Care Ministries) had their worship team come out with us and hold a concert for the village. The pastor for the area gave a message on cotton candy. She spoke about how it was unsatisfying, how it would never fill you up. She paralleled it to the things of the world – the everyday decisions that we make that we think will fill us up, but in the end are just cotton candy – never satisfying.

Now don’t get me wrong – those of you who know me, know I love cotton candy. A couple of years ago I even asked for a cotton candy machine for Christmas. The thing about it though is that if you aren’t careful, once you put the sugar in, it will spit it right back out at you. My sisters and I would tend to throw it in and then duck – hoping to avoid the flying particles – sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. But when it did, when we finally got that fluffy ball wrapped just right around the stick – it was worth it! It tasted great – how else would pure sugar taste?!

But as we’d be enjoying our cotton candy, distracted by our pink blobs we’d forget to hit the off switch and eventually cotton candy would be flying everywhere, getting everywhere, sticking to everything!

It’s just like that saying – whoever says it – too much of a good thing can’t be all that good, can it?

So with Christmas almost here, and the holiday “treats” all set out before you – will you choose the “treats” that fill you up or the “treats” that leave you distracted, looking for more, unsatisfied. Remember to turn off the switch, don’t over do it.
