The majority of our time on the World Race is spent “doing ministry.” Each month we are paired with a new ministry in a different country, have a contact at that ministry, and spend our days (or sometimes nights) doing what we came here to do – ministry.
It can be a pretty vague term, and I spent a lot of time wondering and anticipating what ministry would be like on the world race. The only answer I have so far is that I’m pretty sure it will be different – in every country, for every team, every day.
So for Team Freedom, this month, what does ministry look like?
Tuesday it was sitting for an hour and braiding head after head of long, black hair – every girl wanted her hair done just like I did the last (a sideways, over the shoulder French braid, which apparently was very novel.)
Yesterday it was getting up at 6 am to cook pancakes for 2 hours for breakfast while chatting with 2 of the older girls. Then it was making up ridiculous choreography to song after song while 10 kids stood behind me and followed my every move. (It was so fun!)
Today it was teaching teenage girls about their identity in Christ, playing basketball, and teaching little girls how to do back-rolls and cartwheels.
Ministry.
It looks like this…
And this…
And this…
And this…
And this…
MINISTRY.
This month, it’s about serving, building relationships, pouring into little lives so that when we tell them about True Life they’ll have a reason to listen. It’s good. Really good.
