Thanksgiving dinner.

Honduras.

72 people.

Headlamps as candles.

Wildflowers in glass Coke bottles as centerpieces.

It was perfect.

It was a Thanksgiving like no other I’ve ever experienced. Only my second Thanksgiving Day away from home, and my first outside of the United States. The day was beautiful, sunny, warm and relaxing and consisted of spending time together on the property. There were all kind of things happening – watching movies, playing football (but not the American kind) watching football (the American kind) Frisbee golf, laying under a tree reading and talking together, and more.

As the brilliant sun set, people started packing into the main room for an American style Thanksgiving dinner. As everyone streamed in and conversation picked up, I closed my eyes and felt it:

Home.

Family.

Thanksgiving.

The sounds of laughter, stories, greetings, hugs and kisses filled the room. There was an excitement. An energy. An anticipation. And love. An overflow of love.

We took our seats – The 52 men and women of B-Squad, our Honduran family and friends, and some guests from the community we are doing ministry in. I’ve never experienced a holiday with such a high number of people I love. Dinner was served by a few of our fellow squad mates who spent hours (and some of them days) preparing the feast.

Chicken (turkey is harder to come by in this part of the world) and all the fixings- stuffing, mac and cheese, potatoes, corn, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, sweet tea and of course, pumpkin pie and ice cream. We were so blessed by tastes and traditions of home.

I am so thankful to have had such a special Thanksgiving this year.

I am thankful that love and family and feelings of being “at home” transcend geography.

I am thankful for my B-Squad family – how they love each other, how they love others, how they love me, and how they bring Kingdom.

I am thankful for my family and friends at home who are loving me, supporting me, and praying for me from afar.

I am so thankful for my financial supporters, who are making each day of the Race possible.

I am thankful for you.

Thank you!
