Let’s say Christ never died.

You still with me? Good, because even I was considering not finishing this post after that first sentence. Thanks for sticking with me!

So, Christ didn’t die. What if Christ didn’t come to earth at all? (Haven’t left yet? Cool.)

This is purely hypothetical, so everything that follows may not make 100% sense, but that’s not my point. My point is to say:

Even if Christ didn’t die, God is undeniably worthy of my worship, devotion and life.

(Seriously, that’s what the rest of this post is going to say. So if you’re on a time crunch, bored of my writing, or just want to think that one through, you can stop reading now. You’re not going to miss anything.)

Do you ever forget the bigness of God?

If you want to give yourself a glimpse into the bigness of God every single morning, either read the last few chapters of Job, or check out the Astronomy Picture of the Day website.

Even if Christ never died or never walked this earth, I know, serve, and am loved by the same God that creates galaxies that are hundred of light years wide! I am known by the God that breathes stars, builds black holes and brings forth creation. The God that I serve is the God that holds an ever expanding, increasingly chaotic, explosive, ferocious universe in His hand. And even with all of that power, He chooses me. And you.

How is it possible for us to not worship?

When you look up at the sun (spring is almost here!), think about how the biggest known star in the universe is over 1,700 times larger than our sun. 1,700! That’s like comparing your average bath towel to a football field.

AND OUR GOD CONTROLS THAT FOOTBALL FIELD!

The Glory of the Heavens, seen from Earth

Be amazed, be in awe, be on your knees. Christ died for your sins and my sins. Christ endured an immeasurable punishment to mend an irreparable relationship, a relationship that is with “the blessed and only Sovereign, the Kind of kinds and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see” (1 Timothy 6:15-16). We have relationship with Him whose glory is told by the heavens, which are the works of His fingers.

We know THE GOD who makes ALL THINGS. Yet I forget. I forget that, when I’m praying, I’m praying to someone who at that exact same time is creating a new galaxy. I forget that, as I’m worshiping, I’m praising someone who is bringing babies to life. I forget that, as I’m angry, frustrated, and callous, I’m spurning someone who counted all that power as nothing and instead chose to take my human form and visit my human world of pain, hurt and sin.

“I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.” – Psalm 18:1-3
