Dear Future World Racer,
My biggest concern when applying for the World Race was living and doing life with people that I had never met. I consider myself a shy person, so it was a real concern for me.
Once I was accepted to the Race, I was immediately put into a GroupMe with all of my other squad mates. This was approximately 50 people that always seemed to have conversations at the most inconvenient times… I am talking like 2:00 in the morning when I had class the next day. However, those squad mates turned into the people that I always seem to go to first when anything happens.
The day that I got the phone call that my dad had a brain tumor, I was actually numb. I didn’t know who to turn to to ask for prayers. I have never been so thankful for a group of strangers in my entire life. In His timing, He knew exactly when I would need them. Timidly, I told them what was going on and that I was rushing to get home. All of them immediately told me that they were praying for him and for a miracle to happen. They also were checking on me, basically hourly; it was like God knew that I needed a rotation of people to make sure I was okay.
God performed miracles in my dad. If you looked at him today, you would not know that he has cancer. God has blessed my entire family with a wonderful testimony of His never-ending grace.
However, I am not here to talk about how God performed a miracle in my dad, but in the blessing that my squad mates are. I have only met three of my squad mates so far, but I will meet the rest of them in 11 days at Training Camp. But this group of strangers has grown from people that I barely knew, to people that I trust with my whole heart.
I am adamantly excited to meet them all and personally thank them for being a Godly influence in my life. I am cannot wait for the day that I get to live, minister, and do everyday life with all of these wonderful people.
So, to the future World Racer that is scared of having to live with people that they do not know….
- God will provide you the exact people that you need for this portion of your life, even if you do not realize it!
- It can take time to understand the many different personalities that come along with your squad mates! (Take plenty of personality tests to learn about them!!)
- These people, whether you like it or not, will slowly carve their way into your heart!
- Your squad mates will be your family for 11 months and then long after that!
“Being part of a family means that you are a part of something very wonderful. It means that you will love and be loved for the rest of your life. No matter what.”
In Christ,
A member of the wonderful I-Squad
