Busia, Kenya.

We have a “real lifer” staying with our teams this month. Our real lifer is a sweet girl from Texas who is living with us for the month to see how The World Race works. Our new friend started feeling ill last Tuesday night- it started with the chills, fever, a lot of difficulty breathing and numbness in her fingers spreading to her arms and feet. A few of us were in the room with her and the rest of us were in the living room with Pastor Gideon, our contact. My teammate Lyndsie came out into the living room and relayed news to us that Kristen wasn’t doing well and that we should pray.

Pastor Gideon asked a man named Charles, to do the honors.

We got into a circle and held hands as Charles began to sing. I think there were angels in the room as we sang “Able, he is able, king of kings, lord of lords, I worship you. Mighty, he is mighty”.

Then he began to pray.

I’ve never been so sure of the name of Jesus in my entire life. I’ve never been so sure of the power in the name of Jesus. Both Gideon and Charles were saying the name at the same time.

He then began to quote scripture over Kristen. I finally understood what “the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two edged sword” really meant. The word of God is full of power and it hit me like a ton of bricks.

After the prayer Pastor Gideon said, “okay, now we just relax, it is in the hands of God.”

So we went to join our other team members in the room with Kristen.
As we walk in, Kristin was interceding on behalf of our team, and also for herself, for her healing. Life was spewing out of her mouth for ten minutes straight.
When she finished praying she kept saying, “I can breathe, this is amazing.” I think the devil was literally choking the breath out of her, trying to prevent her from speaking.
Once she spoke…
the power of the enemy was broken.

She later told us that she hates praying out loud in front of people (if you heard her pray this night- that statement would sound absurd) and that for 10 minutes she let other people pray over her even though she clearly heard God saying “your turn. You need to pray”. Once she obeyed, God breathed into her- God released something in her- and that helped to release something in me.

It’s important to be obedient to the things God is telling you- there is blessing tied to obedience and there is also freedom, yours and others’, tied to your obedience.

Side note. We are staying in a house and 11 girls are sharing a room with mosquito nets.  Claustrophobic might be an understatement.

We have been doing construction at the church. I’ve learned how to carry a 10 liter water jug on my head. I haven’t mastered it without hands, yet.

We will be doing evangelism and preaching for the next 2 weeks.

AND Next Monday we are going white water rafting at Jinja, the mouth of the Nile!! Yeah yeah yeah.
