It
is hard to believe that our first month of ministry is already over. We left La Cama on Wednesday. It was a bitter sweet good-bye. It was sad to say good-bye to the
friends that we have made over the last month but I felt like we as a team had
accomplished what we were there for, so that made it easier to leave. I can honestly walk away so proud of
our team and thankful to God for all that happened over the last month.
For
this month, I believe God has us in La Cama to be servants. We did construction alongside the
workers to help them build their church. There was one day where I was mixing cement right next to this man who
didn’t speak any English. I don’t
even think he spoke Spanish. He
only spoke their native language. So, we couldn’t communicate at all through words, but yet I had the best
time working alongside of him. It
was an amazing feeling just shoveling cement for a dream they have in this
church, and I was blessed enough to be a part of it.
I also think that a huge reason we
were there was to encourage and lift up our fellow brothers and sisters in
Christ. Most of the people in the
area are either Christian or are around the Gospel and have heard the Word at some
point. They were so excited to
have us there to fellowship with, for us to provide some encouraging words, and
just bring kind of a refreshing spirit.
It
was truly a blessing and an honor for us to be a part of this community for an
entire month. They truly
understand what it is to share the love of Christ. The entire community went out of their way to bless us with
different things from snacks while at work, to bringing us blankets in the
cold, to purchasing us a hot water heater to have hot drinks. They bless us out of faith and with
what God has given them. They were
so thankful to have us there and were always looking for ways to bless us for
helping them. It was so humbling
to be around such a giving and faithful community. I hope that we were able to bless them half as much as they
blessed us.
Lindsay
summarized things very well. She
said that our job this month was laying a foundation for the church, but that
we were also doing that as a team. I couldn’t agree more with that statement. It was a wonderful first month for us as a team. We are growing closer as friends,
learning more about each other, and challenging each other. We are learning how we function as a
team. We made some wonderful
memories and got a lot of work done together. I am so excited about the months and memories to come. I am so proud to be on this team and
could not ask for any other people that I would rather be traveling and
ministering with.
All
in all, it was a wonderful way for us to start of this journey. I know that we as a team have lots
ahead of us. I pray that we would continue to live each day in the moment and
take every opportunity God lays before us to bring his Kingdom.
