December is a  major month for donations. People are looking for ways to get in their year-end donations to be written off at the beginning of the year. In fact, the last ten days of December typically supply as much as 40% of giving for the year for a lot of organizations. For this reason I am writing a December letter asking old friends and new friends to help me finish the year strong. Even if you are not a donor, or do not intend to be a donor to this ministry, I ask you to read this letter to learn about what I will be doing.

In April, I was accepted to do “The World Race” with the non-profit organization “Adventures in Missions”. My team will be leaving on January 4th, to go to the Dominican Republic. I would like to share a little about the organization I am going with  and a bit about The World Race.

AIM (Adventures In Missions) is an interdenominational missions organization that focuses on discipling. We emphasize prayer and relationships in our work among the poor.

In the 17 years since we were established, we have taken 65,000 people to the mission field, some for a year or longer.

Through our 14 bases around the world, we have year-round ministry to places where “the least of these” are found. We believe that by giving people the opportunity to hold orphans, bring hope to the hopeless, and pray for the sick, lives are transformed. We seek to disciple as Jesus did – our vision is that God would use us to raise up a generation of radically committed disciples of Jesus Christ!

Adventures in Missions Values

1. Listening Prayer – Prayer is the basis for our direction and power. Acts 1:8
2. Wild Trust – To succeed, we must constantly attempt things doomed to fail without God.  Hebrews 11:6
3. Pervasive Excellence – We work as unto the Lord. Colossians 3:23
4. Foolish Grace – We work with a common spirit of humility and grace. Philippians 2:1-4
5. Holistic Integrity – We do things just because they’re right (this incorporates shalom and Kingdom – it has to do w/ wholeness & restoration)

Why “The World Race”?

What we’re offering is not just another mission trip. The World Race taps an ancient human compulsion to take a spiritual pilgrimage. Aussies have their walkabout and Muslims have their Haj. American college students have an abbreviated bacchanal – a week’s trip to Ft. Lauderdale in the spring that barely gives voice to the urge to go somewhere and do something different.

A whole new rite of passage is waiting to be born and a million young people are waiting to respond. They are under-challenged and ultra-coddled. They didn’t sign up for the future they’re being handed.

Once the World Race is broadcast to a broader audience, this generation will respond in numbers that overwhelm us. We owe it to them to gear up and do it right. We owe them not just this experience, but the opportunity it represents to tap their deepest yearning to not sell out, at least not before they’ve given a wild alternative their best shot.

Yours for the journey,
Seth Barnes

Now that I have shared the vision of this mission organization and of The World Race, I am asking you to partner with me in this adventure of a lifetime.

I am still $5,000 away from the goal of $14,000 that I need to raise in order to go on this trip. I am asking that you would prayerfully consider donating monthly OR by giving a one time gift. Adventures in Missions is registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Donors will receive receipts for their gifts. Your donation may be tax-deductible. Please consult your tax-adviser.

I know that God is providing and will provide for the rest of the support to come in. “And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” –Philippians 4:19
