This one is a bit overdue…sorry!

During the few days we spent in Bangkok between Cambodia and the Philippines, we were given the opportunity to serve at a couple different ministries. One that had tugged at my heart ever since I started reading about it on the January team’s blogs was to go down to the Well, a ministry that works with girls who have come out of the bars, providing a place for them to live and respectable jobs for them so that they have a way to earn money (since that’s why most of them go to the bars in the first place).

A group of us went down to visit on Sunday for church and met some of the American and Thai missionaries who help run the ministry. We set up the opportunity to go back for the day Monday and Tuesday and spend time with the girls at the jewelry-making site.

Four of us girls went down there Monday and instantly fell in love with the ministry and the girls and the jewelry. We worked with a group of about 6 women and just sat with them for while, until they decided to put us to work and give us simple jobs. So Monday afternoon we made coiled bracelets out of purple stone and wire, and Tuesday we made a whole bunch of different projects including necklaces and bracelets. More than that, though, we made relationships with the girls at the Well. We had so much fun working with them and spending time with them and loving on them and hearing their stories and trying to learn Thai and teaching them English.

After just two short days there I didn’t want to leave. It tore my heart in two to say goodbye to the girls Tuesday night, knowing that we were getting on a plane for the Philippines Wednesday afternoon. It was an amazing opportunity for ministry in the midst of a tough transition time, and I’m so thankful that God chose me to be a part of the work that is being done at the Well.
