Wow…my first blog post. I’ve been accepted to this Race since the end of August, had my own blog for more than a month, and I’m finally getting around to writing an update. I guess that’s what I get for being busy with school and at home and with friends and family and such…
I’ve been thinking about this monumental first post for a while though – what I want to say, the first impressions I want to make, the excitement I want to convey – so I decided to just write little snippets about all the things I’ve been thinking/praying/learning about.
First, perhaps, an explanation to the June and September teams (since my name is on both lists) – I’m really on the September team (I actually decided a little less than a month ago to switch because that’s where I felt God leading me…and because of school and family reasons). I’ve been reading all your bios and updates, though, and am so excited to see what God is doing in and through all of you!
Over break I had the chance to go to the Urbana missions conference in St. Louis – it was truly an amazing and life-changing event and rekindled my passion for missions even more. If you want to read a longer update about it, click here and read the update (on my xanga site) from 1/4/07. Let’s just say I loved it, wished it was longer than 5 days, and grew SO much!
I’ve also been learning about patience – from the time I was accepted to this trip until the time I leave will be more than a year, and if it were completely up to me, that’s not the way I would have it at all. I really don’t like to wait, I love being on the go, and even though I love having something to look forward to it’s hard because it’s “so far away.” But I know that through this time of waiting, God is going to teach me a lot of worthwhile lessons that I’ll be able to apply as we travel next year…so in the end, I guess waiting is a good thing.
Well, I guess that’s enough for a first post. I can’t wait to continue on in this amazing journey with the Lord!
in His grip,
Becky
