Month two is officially over. We left the ministry site yesterday and are staying in town at a hostel for a couple days of rest before we move on to Panama. The morning of the 7th will be the start of our next two day drive through Central America.
I’ve learned a lot this month about the importance of prioritizing the time I spend with God and embracing interruption. I feel like so many people walked through hard things this month, myself included, and it’s been an honor to walk through it all with them.
So now without further ado…
Welcome to an incomplete snapshot of my last month in no particular order:
- Ministry for my team this month looked like mostly yardwork and kitchen cleanup after the first week. The best part of yardwork is burning the leaves at the end of the week. We also had lots of time to play with the kids.
- Sometimes I felt a kid hug me before I saw them.
- I started playing the shaky egg thing in our new band. Just like that. I don’t know what I’m doing, but I’m not letting that stop me.
- We had to keep the front door closed because otherwise the pelibuey would wander in. They’re somewhere between a sheep and a goat and they’re raised for food which is something I tried not to think about while I was making friends with them.
- There are a million ways to prepare a combination of beans, rice and plantains and they’re all delicious.
- The other day I was walking down an empty street and a horse ran down the middle of the lane yelling the whole way. There was nothing behind or in front of him. This was just another Sunday morning.
- Cold showers. I actually can’t imagine taking a hot shower. It sounds uncomfortable this close to the equator.
- If someone yells my name it usually means I have to chase a giant toad out of the bathroom again.
- We went sledding down the side of a volcano. For some reason there was a huge swarm of bees at the top.
- I got up with the sun at 5:30 every morning and spent at least an hour reading, writing and praying, which is something I’m still figuring out, but enjoying. Today I slept in until 6….
