As some of you may know, a traditional World Race route has hosts in every country; and an expedition World Race route has no hosts in any country. My route is essenitally a hybrid of the two. In some countries we have hosts, and in others we do not.
Kenya (or month six) was a month without a host for my team.

Team Dandy-Lions was given an assignment in Kenya: find your “average” day-to-day heroes that would be potentinal partnerships for future World Race teams! Basically, we were asked to go into Kenya and meet new people who would want to host (and would have work for) future World Racers.

We all felt called towards Mombasa, and so, we went.
Mombasa is a HOT beach town on the eastern coast of Kenya.
When we got there, not sure where else to begin, we started by making connections to locals. We met everyone from tribal members, to acrobatic kids, to tourists, etc.

We took low-tide tours out in the Indian Ocean, fed local adults & children lunches on the beach, and sent e-mails to possible connections to get to know people. Each way we went, we told people what we were doing, and we got quite a few referrals to good connections… and it was pretty fun along the way.

The coolest part was that even though our assignment was to ”find future connections,” we still had tons of opportunity to do ministry and serve people along the way. One of my favorite outreaches was feeding people on the beach. We learned to cook ugali, chapati, cabbage, and beans to be able to serve local dishes to them… it was honestly so fun.

We also had opportunities to do things such as paint a school, partner with existing missionaries in the Mombasa area, and share meals with people who have given their whole lives to Kenya.

The Unsung Hero that I ended up working most closely with was Faith International Church. They are a vibrant church in the neighborhoods off a main road in Mombasa. They are firm believers in Jesus, miracles, and using prayer against spiritual warfare. It was such a blessing to get to know the work that Pastor Helen, Betty, and others are doing there.

Overall, we found quite a few possible future partners in Kenya… and I enjoyed getting to experience Mombasa while doing it!
