Honestly, a lot of these lessons I could have learned back in the states but God choose to open my eyes during this last 11 months on the race. So here are some valuable lessons I hope I never forget.

  1. When I’m operating out of a place where I don’t believe I am fully loved by God, my focus is more centered on myself. Even when I hold back because I don’t feel my opinions matter or I don’t have anything of value to share… timidity does not equal humility. It’s still a pride issue. When my focus is on me and I’m focused on how I am feeling I’m not operating out of a place a being fully loved by my Heavenly Father.
  2. It’s ok if you don’t know something, stop trying to be right, move on and learn from it.
  3. It’s always better to be safe than sorry… carry wipes with you always.
  4. Surround yourself with people who will call you higher and say the hard things in love… don’t waste time with people who are just going to tell you what you want to hear.
  5. Community is significantly underrated… God calls us to be in community so find good peeps to surround yourself with.
  6. You can do significantly more than you thought possible if you are willing and take just one more step after another.
  7. God’s not going to intrust me with more if I’m already irresponsible with what He’s given me.
  8. People around the world are absolutely beautiful… even with less their hearts are willing to give everything they have.
  9. Have the mindset… it’s not a sacrifice, it’s a privilege. Submission leads us closer to Christ.
  10. Dependence on the Lord is not weakness, it’s wise!
  11. If you truly love someone, you are willing to say the hard things because you know although it may hurt it will ultimately benefit their growth.
  12. Lighten up, don’t take yourself so seriously… sometimes you just need to dance and sing to Michael Jackson with a friend at the gas station. Let people laugh at you. It brings joy!!
  13. You will never regret being intentional with the Lord, inviting Him to do everything with you, but you will regret doing things for God without including Him.
  14. You are perfectly loved just as you are!

I am so grateful for this incredible life… stay tuned for a new blog series to come over the next several days, sharing some of my favorite memories of the race.
