I’ve been getting a lot of practical questions and thought I’d write this quick blog to keep you all up to date. Some of the most popular questions I’m being asked right now are:
1) When do you leave?
My launch date is around September 1st. Plane tickets haven’t been bought yet, so I don’t have the specific date. However, I go to Training Camp this weekend (July 2nd).
2) What’s Training Camp?
I’ll be spending 8 days in the mountains of Tennessee meeting my squad, and, presumably, being trained. By the end of camp, I will know who the members of my team are (the 6 or so people that I will be spending every moment of every day with for 11 months).
3) What do you do at Training Camp?
I really don’t have a clue. I will most likely be answering this question in the next blog I write. (You know, the blog that I’ll be writing AFTER Training Camp.)
4) How far are you in support raising?
Right now, I have a little over $7,000 in my account and another $2,000 promised to me in the future from monthly donors. That leaves over $5,000 to go, but I am in a very good position to start the race in September. Also, the money I am saving by living with my parents is going towards the race (although some of that will be used for gear and other expenses).
5) Do you have any other summer plans?
After Training Camp, I am spending a few days with my lovely friend Sarah and her family in North Carolina. For the rest of the summer, I will be bumming around Jersey, attempting to soak up minutes with the friends and family that I’ll be missing come September!
6) How can we contact you during the race?
The best way will be through this blog, but, I can’t promise that I’ll have internet access (or the time to reply when I do). I will be updating the blog as frequently as I can, so, if you’d like to keep up with me, click on Follow Me or submit your email where it says “Subscribe for Blog Updates.” You’ll get an email every time I update the blog (instead of you trying to remember to check it throughout the year).
7) What are your prayer requests?
-Pray for Training Camp, especially the unity of the squad and my team, and for a spirit of humility. The more humble we are, the more God can work. (And the more God works, the more interesting this blog will be…)
-Pray that as God leads, people would continue to partner with me in both prayer and financial support. If you are interested in supporting me financially, check out this blog.
-Pray that I would stay focused on Jesus first, and everything else (like the World Race) second. It’s easy to get caught up in preparing for the race and missing out on what God’s doing right now.
Have a great 4th of July weekend… I'll be with my new friends at Training Camp… in a state where fireworks are legal… =)
