Cheesy title I know, but it’s late, what can I say!

Bible verses, movie lines, song lyrics, and quotes are some of my favorite things to find and look up. I find them interesting and they get me thinking, often late into the night. Here are some of my favorites:

“Finally, let no one cause me trouble for I bear on my body the marks of Christ” – Galatians 6:17
This is one of my all-time favorite Bible verses. Very personal to me and my life. As a
matter of fact, I have it tattooed on my wrist!

Whoever finds their life will lose is, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.”-Matthew 10:39
This is kind of my motto for this trip. For much of my life I have selfishly focused only
on my wants and needs and after reading this verse right before I applied for the World
Race it really stuck. I am so excited to completely give up my own
life and live and serve others through Christ!

If the world hates you keep in mind that it hated me first.”-John 15:18
I think this verse speaks for itself.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart. I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”-Jeremiah 1:5
Whenever I forget that God is the one in charge, not me, I always try to remind myself
          of this verse.

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”-James 1:27
For every missionary out there, this verse says it all.

“What do people gain from all their labors at which they toil under the sun? Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains forever. What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief.”-Ecclesiastes 1:3-4,9,18
So glad my friend introduced me to this awesome book, because previously I had never
really read that much into it. So poetic and beautiful. Really keeps life in perspective. All we
are is dust in the wind.

I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you.”-Malachi 3:6-7
I really like this. It’s true for everyone, the believer and non-believer. Jesus will never
abandon us, we just need to call out to Him.

“We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong”
“Then he said, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’”
“Jesus answered him, ‘truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.’”-Luke 23:41-43

I don’t know why this verse has always captured me but it does. There is just something
about knowing that will never be perfect and do things right, yet because of Christ we are
forgiven and will live forever in paradise with Him.

Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever downs me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.”-Matthew 10:32-33
It’s easy to say you will stand up for your faith, but many have a hard time with it,
          especially in today’s world.

“’For I know the plans I have for you’, declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”-Jeremiah 29:11

Even if I give up on myself, He will never give up on me.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and he will make your paths straight.”-Proverbs 3:5-6
I like the part about leaning on God, not your understanding. He knows so much more
than we ever will, so wouldn’t it only make sense to trust in Him?

“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”-2 Corinthians 12:9-10
I really like this verse. With some of the stuff I’ve been through in my life, this verse makes
sense. No matter what I’m going through, if I have God on my side then I am strong, no
matter how weak I may feel.

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other.”-John 15:16-17
I wish everyone could hear this verse and live it.

“A pretentious, showy life is an empty life; a plain and simple life is a full life.” – Proverbs 13:7
Very true if you sit and think about it. “Things” in life will get you nowhere. It’s the
relationships and the good that you do for others that gives life meaning.

“Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God.” – Romans 12:2

Always try to remind myself of this verse. If you follow the crowd you’ll get lost in it. Plain
          and simple.

“What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if all that you have is from God, why boast as though you have accomplished something on your own?” – 1 Corinthians 4:7
This verse really says it all. Everything we have has been graciously given to us by God.
          Everything.

“When I said my foot is slipping, your mercy and loving kindness, o Lord, held me up” – Psalm 94:18
Even when you go through a hard time in life, God will always be on your side and never
let you down. I’ve relied on this verse many times throughout my life.

Everything is possible for he who believes” – Mark 9:23
          Enough said.

“And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” –Philippians 4:19
I repeat this verse to myself all the time. As long as I have Jesus in my life, I have
          everything.

“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful. He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.  But when you are tempted He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”-1 Corinthians 10:13
Often times in my life I’ve thought ‘I can’t do this’ but this verse constantly reminds me
that I can overcome anything if I have my mind and heart in the right place. If He brings
you to it, he’ll get you through it.

“When you forgive, you love. And when you love, God’s light shines upon you” – Into the Wild
One of my all-time favorite movies. Forgiveness and love are so powerful.

“How can you see places like this… and have moments like this and not believe?”
“You’re lucky to be so sure.”
“It’s like the wind. I can’t… see it, but I feel it.”-A Walk to Remember

Kind of like living your faith in a way and the bible verse John 20:29,because you have
seen me, you have believed, blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed
.”

“It’s always the last day of summer and I’ve been left out in the cold with no door to get back in. I’ll grant you I’ve had more than my share of poignant moments. Life passes most people by while they’re making grand plans for it. Throughout my lifetime, I’ve left pieces of my heart here and there. And now, there’s almost not enough to stay alive. But I force a smile, knowing that my ambition far exceeded my talent.”-Blow
Though the lifestyle is a less desirable one, I love this movie and quote. Your ambition can
get you far in life, you just have to put it to use in the correct way.

“Life passes most people by while they’re making grand plans for it.”-Blow
Very true for myself in particular. I had my whole life planned out and thought I knew
what was going on. I was very wrong. Now, looking back, I realize that I lost a lot of
precious time because I focusing on less important things in life.

“Sanka, ya dead?”
“Yah mon”-Cool Runnings

One of the best movies out there! Always makes me laugh. If you haven’t seen it, you’re
          missin’ out!

“You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one” -Imagine, John Lennon

I love this. The Gandhi quote and this are by far themes of how I want to live my life. I
can’t wait until the day when this comes true!

“For long you live and high you fly
and smiles you’ll give and tears you’ll cry
and all you touch and all you see
is all your life will ever be” – Pink Floyd

I think this is very true for the life you chose to live. If you live your life wrapped up in
money and having ‘things’ that will not come with you after you die then your life will be
nothing. But if you live your life surrounded by people who lift you up, helping those you
can, and making a real difference in this world that’s what really matters.

“Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run there’s still time to change the road you’re on.” – Led Zeppelin
My Auntie Laura has helped me realize the truth to this statement numerous times over.
It’s never too late, the time is now.

“Till He returns or calls me home— Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.”-In Christ Alone
Awesome song I found from a truly inspiring friend!

“I find hope and it gives me rest
I find hope in your beating chest
I find hope in what eyes don’t see
I find hope in your hate for me
Have no fear when the waters rise
We can conquer this great divide”-Great Divide

Awesome song with a great message that pertains particularly to the struggles in Africa,
but can be true for everywhere in the world.

“I know all the rules, but the rules do not know me”-Into The Wild
This could be taken a few ways, but I love this quote. For example, when it comes to
helping keep the house clean, I know the rules, but they do not know me. Or apply to me.
Haha just kidding…kind of 😉 To me this really goes back to society, and how it tells you to
live your life. For me, I know how others want me to live, but I don’t follow the hype. I am
me and I live for God’s will, not America’s.

“It’s a mystery to me. We have a greed with which we have agreed. And you think you have to want more than you need, until you have it all you won’t be free, society, you’re a crazy breed, I hope you’re not lonely without me”-Into The Wild
Can’t get enough of this movie!!! This is true for everything I hate about American society
today (don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of good about America too!). I hate that people
are so money and power hungry. In all reality, there is very little in life that we need, that
money can buy you. I’d rather be dirt poor and truly happy than have all the money in
the world and live a mediocre life.

“God is so vastly wonderful, so utterly and completely delightful that He can, without anything other than Himself, meet and overflow the deepest demands of our total nature, mysterious and deep as that nature is.”-A.W. Tozer
This quote really says it all. God is so amazing, so incredible that nothing comes even close
          to Him!

“Every experience of beauty points to eternity.”-Hans Urs von Balthasar
So if you’ve kept up with my blogs and read my about me section it’s pretty easy to tell
love nature! To me, nature is the essence of beauty. And eternity with the Lord will be so
incredibly, amazingly beautiful that He lets us experience a little bit of it now through
          nature!

“Never be afraid to do something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark; professionals built the titanic.”-Unknown
Don’t remember how or where I found this, but I love it! Speaks volumes for those who
are willing to think about this statement and find the truth in it.

“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.”-Ambrose Redmoon
I like this because it is like the underlying message of what I’ve told my parents and friends
for years. I’d rather die for something than live for nothing, therefore going out in the
world does not scare me because I know how important the message I’m trying to send
          is.

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” -Elanore Roosevelt
Very wise woman. I believe, as well as the rest of the world racers I’ll be traveling with, that
our dream of a better future, making a difference, and bringing hope and love to the world
is possible because of the power behind our message. Nothing is impossible.

“Just because you don’t believe in God doesn’t mean God doesn’t believe in you”-Unknown
Again, not sure who said this or where I found it, but the first time I read it, it really struck
me. It was a point in my life that my faith was not up to par and I was putting God on the
backburner and it really got me thinking. How amazing my life has been since I took to
heart the message of this quote.

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world”- Gandhi

One of my absolute favorites. I have a painting I did of this quote hanging in the center of
my room that I look at every day. Each day I try more and more to be that ‘change’ our
          world needs.

“Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.”-Lao Tze

A bunch of little things that become something huge. Really makes sense if you sit and
ponder this thought for a few moments.

“Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.”-Oscar Wilde
Love it. Although there’s a hint of arrogance I think this is so true. Taking the upper hand
will always get you further in life and give an example to others.

“There is a pleasure in the pathless woods; There is a rapture on the lonely shore; There is society, where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar; I love not man the less, but Nature more” – George Gordon Byron
One of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite movies! Into The Wild! I can’t get
enough of nature and the simple beauty it has to offer. There’s just something about it.
Other than Jesus dying for our sins I think nature is up there with God showing how much
he loves us. It’s just incredible.

“We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.” -Sir Winston Churchill
Stealing another quote from Into the Wild, ‘I think careers are a 20th century invention
and I don’t want one.’ I’ve told my mom (probably a dozen times just the past week!)
how I don’t like working. It’s not for me. I don’t want a 9-5 career that takes me nowhere
in life. (yes, being a missionary is work, but you get the picture). I want my life’s ‘work’ to
be serving others, giving my life to making a difference and living for God.

“Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.”-Henry David Thoreau
Another favorite! I love this because I think too many people are afraid of the truth. And
that in part is why so many people struggle with their faith. They are afraid of what the real
truth is so they go out and try to find it in all the wrong places. Until you learn God is the
truth I don’t think much else will make sense in life.
